NEXT LIVE WEBINAR: FEBRUARY 10 | 8pm EST

Nonoperative Treatment of Adult Acquired Flatfoot /
Progressive Collapsing Foot Deformity
Learn the essential elements of an evidence-based treatment program.
Presented by Doug Richie, DPM, FACFAS, FAAPSM

A recent published study revealed that the predominant cause of malpractice suits in foot and ankle surgery was a failure to implement proper non-operative care.* Lawsuits filed alleging negligent operative treatment often included claims about improper nonoperative care prior to the surgery.

The medical literature contains robust evidence validating positive outcomes with a multi-faceted nonoperative treatment program for the adult acquired flatfoot.

This webinar will review all the essential elements of this evidence-based program including:

  • Evaluation and staging the adult acquired flatfoot using clinical exam, gait analysis and imaging studies
  • Selecting the proper lower extremity orthosis (i.e. foot orthosis or ankle foot orthosis along with prescription criteria)
  • Recommending proper footwear compatible with the orthosis
  • Prescribing and monitoring a rehabilitation program which includes muscle strengthening, joint range of motion and balance training
  • Monitoring protocol with modifications of the program depending upon progress
  • When to recommend surgery
